How did Slade pull off both tricks?

The braid is something that British Boy Scouts used to make for lanyards, and you just twist one end through the slits.

The looped bands is more of a magic trick. First, start out with a round band and flatten one section. Twist it as shown in the center image, then make the rest of the ring flat. Finally, cut along the length of the now flattened band to make the two loops. The trick is that you show the audience a plain, normal band, then as you pretend to reach into “the fourth dimension,” substitute the gimmick band for the first one.
